The poor will always be with us. The saying, ‘the poor will always be with us’ originated from the bible. According to the Christian bible (Matthew 26:11, Holman Christian standard bible)’ you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me’. The circumstances surrounding this passage occurred just before Jesus’ imminent crucifixion, Mary Magdalen anoints Jesus with a valuable oil/perfume. Prior to this Jesus had always asked his devotees to sell their luxury items and give the money to the impoverished.
